The number of U.S. customers using mobile apps to monitor their energy use more than doubled between 2013 and 2016. That sounds impressive, but this still only represents 17% of utility customers in the U.S. according to a study by Zpryme.
One reason for the low turnout could be the fact that utilities are lagging in digital engagement. In fact, 60% do not offer an app today. Of the 40% that have a mobile presence, only half provide energy monitoring or management features.
